OpenMobileMaps is similar to GoogleMaps but it's relying on OpenStreetMap.org. It's finger friendly and showing the map on fullscreen. GPS support and GSM triangulation (if no GPS device is present) is built in. The downloaded map tiles are stored on your phone/storage and only new ones are downloaded.

Requirements:
- Windows Mobile 5+ Professional
- .NET CF 3.5

Recommendations:
- GPS (built-in or external)
- Internet Connection
The software works well even if you don't meet the recommendations. You can still download the map tiles with your pc and transfer it to your smartphone. For this scenario I recommend JTileDownloader.

Here is a context menu add-on for XP which allows you to quickly open Windows Mobile device folder(s). I love it, makes folder access a breeze.

Think of the entries as shortcuts. Instead of opening folders from ActiveSync, you do it from the context menu. I have only included some default ones so not all of (your) device folders will show up on the list. The ‘Temp’ and ‘Storage Card’ folders are separated from the 3 main device OS group (SP2002, WM2003 SE, WM5/ WM6). Please use the appropriate folder ’shortcut’ for your device. Kindly check this demo video.

PocketCM Keyboard v0.9b

It offers a visible feedback of the key currently pressed, you can imagine that your finger is on the keyboard... and now you can easily see what key is pressed. You can move your finger, the key will change, release it, the key will be triggered (so it's the opposite of a physical keyboard: the actual action is when you release the key, not when you push it). For VGA Support, please download a VGA skin, for instance here. Unzip the file of this zip archive in the PocketCM Keyboard directory (\program files\pcmkeyboard\ for most of us).

Why another keyboard for Windows Mobile? Because:
- It can be used with fingers.
- It suggest word based on letter position.
- It trigger the key when your remove your finger from the screen, not when you press it.
- It can be customized.
- It's a standard Windows Mobile SIP, so to use it you have to select it as the input method, therefore it can be used in (almost) any application. Other reasons includes:

Customizable layout: as you can see the layout is "azerty" for the screenshot, by default PocketCM Keyboard comes with a QWERTY layout. Creating your own is just a question of editing a text file.
Accent recognition and suggestion: the keyboard know accentued letter... so for instance, the french word for summer is "été", if I type 'e', 't', 'e', the keyboard will suggest "été". No need to go to a sub/hidden keyboard doing some accentued letters.
Once you get used to it, you can grab it with two hand and type with the thumb... goes pretty well.

This checkers game it is quite handy and will give you lot of fun. It offers 3 difficulty levels; you can select the desired level from the menu. This game also plays sounds for moves and actions and it is possible to enable/disable those sounds using menu options. The game also makes possible to change pawn colors for each player. By default, the game is ready to be played by a human against a Level 1 Computer Player, you can change that from the game menu and even select 2 humans play mode if you want to use the PocketPC as a board for playing checkers with a friend. How to play? Easy, you have to ways:

You can tap on each piece, and then tap on the next cell where you want to move the piece (including complex moves) and then click the Move! Button, if you want to reset the path, click the Clear button.

This is a preview of the latest version of my SMS Chat application. Anybody interested?

The latest version uses a webbrowser class so the fonts can now be customized to suite the users taste. e.g. color, size, weight, style.

Features:
* add/update a new number directly to your Contacts list.
* messages are numbered so it is easier to copy/paste/save a particular message line
* delete a message window
* easily save the last message sent to a particular text file in your SD
* paste a contact name and number from your Contacts list to your message box
* smileys are now supported (although it is still limited)

* incoming message tone volume is independent from the set volume of the unit

NOTE: SMS Chat works on WM5 OS only. I've tried it on a WM6 emulator and it worked but on an actual unit, the sms is not intercepted by the application (must be a bug or something.) The only solution for this is to use Mobile In The Hand API which costs too much for a freeware (i can't shoulder it alone.) If anybody would be interested in this application to work on 2003 and WM6 OS, a few donation would help a lot :-)

This little utility will automatically detect if the SIM card of a smartphone or pocket pc was replaced. Star EnForcer will automatically send a SMS message to a previously specified phone number containing the new SIM IMSI and current location in hexa LAC-CID combination. The message will repeat every 30 minutes. How does it work:

- install the CAB in the phone/ppc memory (not the storage card). Make sure that you have installed it in \Program Files\SEF
- launch SEF - initially there is no password so press OK. Press Get IMSI. If a long number will appear then it means that the application is compatible with your smartdevice. Mostly C600 - based models should work, C500, Wizard PPCs etc
- input the phone number that you want to use in case your smartdevice is stolen (use a parent's mobile phone, a friend's etc)
- input a password
- press save
- press activate

Now... in case someone steals your phone the first thing they will do is to (obviously) replace the SIM. SEF will automatically detect that the SIM has been replaced by comparing IMSI information. After 30 minutes SEF will automatically send a SMS to the predefined phone number that will include the current SIM's IMSI and the current GSM location (LAC-CID combination in hexa). With the first information and the fact that you will clearly see the thief's phone number you can go to the network operator or the police. If the thief is using a SIM with a subscription he is nailed. If he is using a prepay SIM then at least you will draw comfort from the fact that the credit from that SIM will be drained in a few days because the fact that SEF will automatically repeat the message every 30 minutes (you will also be able to track the thief).

How Today Plugin Uninstallation works

Today Plugin DLLs are loaded during the Pocket PC boot & they are never unloaded (even when you deactive the particular plugin)

The uninstaller has to remove the related registry entries (the DLL is however still unloaded from the memory)

A Soft-reset may be required to finish the process (or) a particular Windows Message has to be posted to reload the today plugins which will release the DLL without requiring a Soft-reset.

Cleaning your Today Screen

As Today Plugin DLLs are loaded during the Pocket PC boot & they are never unloaded, some times normal Uninstallation process may not uninstall the Today Plugin as the DLL is still in use

Use Today Plugin Uninstaller in such cases, where developer has to provided a successful uninstallation script

Simon will play some song phrases. All you have to do is to follow what notes Simon is playing. He will be playing each song phrase note by note, so that you will be able to follow correctly (hopefully!)

On each round, Simon will play initially a single note. Just play that note correctly, and Simon will increment the notes he's playing by one note until you complete the round by playing the song phrase correctly yourself.

Upgrade manual to BIG Storage

1. Right click on the ZIP-file and extract to a named folder (using Winzip or something similiar)
2. You should end up with 10 individual files; ms.nb1, radio.nb1, nk.nb1 ruu.conf, ruu.dll, enterbl, getdevicedata and maupgradeut, the maupgradeut is the file that normally runs the upgrade, you’re going to use MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe
3. In ActiveSync, click on file and connection settings and untick the USB connection.
4. Connect the phone to the USB, and run the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe
5. The upgrade wizard wil start, go through a few checks then probably come up with the coutry Id error (error 120).
6. Run the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe file again and this time it should allow you to run the wizard.
7. The process should then go through 3 stages which should last about 15 - 20 minutes.
8. When finished you should get the upgrade successful notification and a prompt to reset the device
9. In ActiveSync, click on file and connection settings and tick the USB connection.
10. Enjoy your new ROM

Word Completion Dictionary Editor

Application Description

PocketPC has internal mechanism intended to help user write text - word completeion feature. You enable or disable it and change some its options in System > Settings > Input. But there is no way to add your word to dictionary or change words, that system learned from you (yes, it does it sometimes). Two dictionaries may exist: main and temporary, dyncompdict.dat and dyncompdict.tmp. I can't tell right now, why there are two of them and whats each of them is intended for. Using this utility, you can create, edit and one of two dictionaries. Dictionary will be alphabetically sorted, when saved. Words shorter than 4 letters, will be discarded - system will ignore such words anyway. Duplicate words also will be discarded. This done to keep dictionary smaller - there is some limitation on its size - about 7-8kb, larger dictionary will be truncated. Later I will implement size limitation and some optimizations for that.

Why would you want such a "do nothing" plugin? Some people only display a few plugins on their Today Screen and would like to space them apart by a certain distance. Launcher is displayed on Today screen.

It can hide the border of the tab label.

If the file path is "#Arrow up","#Arrow down","#Arrow left","#Arrow right" or "#Settings", it will perform cLaunch functions.

Operations :

Tap on group name tab go directly to the group.
Tap on top left icon to go to the setup screen.
Tap on right arrow key to go to next tab group.
Tap on down arrow key to go to next page within the group.

Tap on active tab will goto next page within the group.

Softkey SMS Automation for wm5 Pocket PC

You need to have a Registry Editor in this procedure:

For this guide our target would be the right soft key with the value 113. (left softkey is 112)

1. Download LNK.ZIP and copy Compose.lnk file to \Windows
2. Using ur Registry Editor goto "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\113"
3. Change the "Default" value to "Compose"
4. Change the value of the "Open" to "\windows\compose.lnk"
5. Save the modifications

WM5 NewMenu

WM5NewMenu is the small app for Windows Mobile 5, originally created to substitute "New menu" that was presented on the previous versions of Windows Mobile (PocketPC 2002, 2003). It consists of two parts: the menu launcher and the settings applet.

Basically, it is configurable app launcher, with several preconfigured actions to create new items, such as SMS, MMS, Word document, Note, etc. These preconfigured actions were chosen to do same things as did the actions from original "New menu".

As app is fully configurable, new items/actions can be added via simple, intuitive, GUI (see screenshots). The items can be disabled or removed, their order can be changed.

Additionally, WM5NewMenu supports original "New menu" items. Some are by default in system, as they were before, but in Windows Mobile 5 they are not used. Default actions which come with WM5NewMenu do the same thing. But 3rd party application can add own "New menu" extension and therefore can be useful to have possibility to use such extension.
